This week, in our Meet the Team series, we sat down to speak to Centre Manager of Business First’s Glasgow business centre, Cheryl McFadyen, to find out a little bit more about who she is and what she does at Business First and beyond.
As always, we asked some serious questions, and some pretty daft ones, too…
What’s your full name and job title?
“Cheryl McFadyen, and I’m the business centre manager for Business First, Glasgow.”
Before working here, what’s the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had?
“I worked at Argos for 3 and a half years and I loved dealing with the returns as it was always something different. I also got to do all the promotions that we had coming up and I dealt with most customer complaints.”
If you could swap jobs with one person in the company, who would it be and why?
“It would have to be Sarah, mainly for her knowledge and her work focused attitude.”
What three words do you think best describe Business First?
“Affordable, modern and comfortable.”
What three words do you think best describe you?
“Honest, reliable and cheerful.”
What’s the most challenging thing you’ve had to do here?
“Actually rent out the office space, as it’s something that I’ve never had to do before working here.”
What’s your favourite film quote?
“The line, ‘My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get’ from Forrest Gump. ”
What’s your proudest moment at Business First?
“Bringing in new tenants.”
Tell us an interesting, random fact about yourself.
“I really don’t like my ears because they fold over at the top.”
Do you have a work nickname?
“It’s really original. It’s Chezza.”
What has been your most embarrassing moment at work?
“Tripping over on the stairs. Loads of people saw me, that was pretty horrifying.”
What’s your favourite place to travel to?
“The Lake District.”
How do you define success?
“Giving all that you can to whatever it is that you do.”
If a film was made of your life, who would you want to play you and why?
“Jennifer Aniston, she is beautiful and funny.”
If you could be any person in history for a day, who would it be and why?
“Audrey Hepburn, she was beautiful, had a beautiful dress sense, and she always took a good picture.”
If you could interview any person in history, who would it be and why?
“Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. He had such a lot of passion for animals!”
If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
“I like strawberries, so it would have to be a strawberry daiquiri.”
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
“David, my partner, makes a fantastic home-made lasagne. I don’t do any cooking, he does it all. Food always tastes better when someone else makes it.”
If you could be any animal for a day, what animal would you be and why?
“I’d be a Siberian husky. I’ve wanted one ever since I was a teenager. The only reason I don’t have one is that we both work full-time and leaving it alone wouldn’t be fair on the dog. They’re just beautiful and good natured animals.”
If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take three things with you, what would they be and why?
“A boat – to get me off the island, David and food.”
Tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know.
“When I was 15, I had the chance to move to Adelaide, in Australia. I chose not to.”
Tell us a little about you and your family.
“I have been with my partner for 14 years now and I would be lost without him – when he spends time with me and not his x-box.”
Who is your idol and why?
“My Dad. He may be living in Australia, but I’ll always be a Daddy’s girl and he always wants the best for me.”
What is your guilty pleasure?
What’s your favourite TV show?
“The Big Bang Theory.”
What’s the oldest thing in your fridge?
“Milk, but it is in date!”
If you could choose one superpower, and only one, what would it be?
“Healing – to get rid of serious illness.”
